IRCC has announced the completion of the invitation process for the Parents and grandparents’ sponsorship program. IRCC has issued a historic 30,000 invitations to people who submitted an expression of interest in last year’s program.

If you received a PGP 2021 invitation, you would have 60 days to submit your application from the date of your invitation.

Please use this link from IRCC to check whether you were invited to apply or not.

Before you submit your application, please ensure that you meet the 2021 Parents and Grandparents Program eligibility requirements as a sponsor:

  • – You must have received the invitation to apply from IRCC.
  • – You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or a registered Indian under the Canadian Indian Act;
  • – You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • – You are Residing in residing in Canada;
  • – You must meet the minimum income requirement and provide proof of income to IRCC. If you are married or in a common-law relationship, your spouse’s income could also be included to meet the minimum income requirements. You may be required to submit notices of assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) to support their application.
  • – Ensure you calculate the correct family size while reviewing your income requirements
  • – Sign an undertaking that commits you to:
    • – providing financial support for your sponsored family members for 20 years, starting when they become permanent residents
    • – repaying any provincial social assistance (money from the government), your sponsored family members get during that time
    • – If you live in Quebec, you need to sign an undertaking with the province of Quebec

What if you are not invited to apply?

It could be disheartening, but you will still have a chance to apply for the PGP program for FY2022, where it is expected that 20,000 people could be invited in FY2022 and FY2023.

You also have an option to apply for supervisa for your parents and grandparents. Supervisa allows your parents and grandparent to stay in Canada with you for a period of up to 2 years. For super visa What is the Super Visa Application Process?

To qualify for Supervisa, there are requirements to be fulfilled by both the sponser and applicant.

  • – Letter of invitation from the sponsor
  • – Document to prove the minimum income requirements
  • – Documents to prove the relationship
  • – Medical Insurance
  • – Medical Examination

In addition, Canadian visa office may ask for the additional documents. The application for the supervisa is assessed on number of factors like purpose of visit, ties to home country, financial sufficiency, criminal and medical inadmissibility.
