You can not sponsor if you were sponsored by a spouse or partner and you became a permanent resident less than 5 years ago

You are bound by the 3 year undertaking to take care of this person and be financially responsible. You can't sponsor untill 3 year period is over.

You do not meet other eligibility criteria i.e. declared bankrupt, received social assistance, convicted of sexual offence inside or outside Canada etc.

One of the policy objectives of the Immigration Refugee and Protection Act is family reunification.
