Temporary foreign workers (TFWs) have played an increasingly important role in the Canadian labour market. A work permit is required in order for a foreign national to be allowed to work in Canada. You may be eligible for employer specific work permit or open work permit.
if you have graduated from an eligible designated learning institution (DLI) with program length of at least 8 months in duration leading to a degree, diploma or certificate, you may qualify for qualify for Post Graduate work permit either up to the length of the program or up to 3 years.
if you're a spouse or family member of someone working or studying temporarily in Canada, you may be eligible for open work permit. Your work permit can not be longer than your spouse. You should also meet the other eligibility requirements, Open work permit allows you to work for any employers.
LMIA approved work permits are specific to Employers As a first step employer is required to get the Labour Market Impact Assessment approval from HSDC before hiring a foreign worker. Work permit application is second step. An employer may provide LMIA offer to support your permanent application.

Spouse of international student can eligible to apply Spouse Open Work Permit if their spouse (Study Permit Holder) is studying full time in Canada in a designated learning institute offering Post Graduate Work Permit. In addition, they also need to prove the genuineness of their relationship.
