Greetings to all aspiring skilled trades professionals! We are thrilled to announce that on January 11, 2024, Ontario issued targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to potential candidates eligible for the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream.
Who received the Notifications?
Candidates with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging from 350 to 424 and work experience in specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes were selected. To qualify, your primary NOC in the Express Entry profile must match one of the following:
NOC 72010 – Contractors and supervisors, machining, metal forming, shaping and erecting trades and related occupations
NOC 72011 – Contractors and supervisors, electrical trades and telecommunications occupations
NOC 72012 – Contractors and supervisors, pipefitting trades
NOC 72013 – Contractors and supervisors, carpentry trades
NOC 72014 – Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers
NOC 72020 – Contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades
NOC 72021 – Contractors and supervisors, heavy equipment operator crews
NOC 72022 – Supervisors, printing and related occupations
NOC 72100 – Machinists and machining and tooling inspectors
NOC 72101 – Tool and die makers

If you were fortunate to receive a notification on January 11, 2024, you are eligible to apply for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream.
What is the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream?
Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream is a pathway to permanent residence under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This stream is designed for foreign nationals with Ontario work experience in eligible skilled trades, offering them the opportunity to live and work permanently in Ontario.
Steps to Apply:
Work Experience:
- Minimum one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience in specific NOC codes.
- Work experience must be obtained within the last two years in Ontario, while maintaining legal status in Canada.
Valid Certificate or License:
- If claiming work experience in a compulsory trade, a valid certificate or license in Ontario is required.
Current Residence and Legal Status:
- Applicants must be living in Ontario and hold a valid work permit at the time of application.
Language Proficiency:
- English or French proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 or higher is necessary.
Settlement Funds:
- Applicants must demonstrate enough funds to support themselves and their dependents.
Intention to Live in Ontario:
- Applicants must intend to live in Ontario after obtaining permanent residence.
How to Apply:
Follow these steps to apply for the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream:
- Ensure you meet all requirements.
- Review the document checklist.
- Create an Express Entry profile.
- Receive a Notification of Interest from Ontario.
- Apply online to be nominated by the Ontario government.
- If nominated, proceed to apply to the federal government through IRCC.
